Alice Housley

The story:
Originally, we were wanting to try to do a VBAC with this baby.  Katie was breech and so I had to have a c-section.  I never went into labor with Katie, and some women have been successful with having a vaginal delivery after having a previous c-section.  Well, at 39 weeks, I was still only dilated to a 1, Alice hadn't dropped, and I wasn't having contractions.   So far, I was following the same pattern as I was with Katie, only I wasn't breech.  My doctor in not so many words recommended doing another c-section.  After talking with my doctor about several different things, I had a decision to make.  Chris and I talked about everything and decided in the end another c-section would be the best decision.  We didn't want to risk losing me or the baby do to uterine rupture.  I will spare you all the details, but we were able to get a scheduled c-section at the hospital two days later, which was a huge blessing.

Alice Housley was born at 6:27 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20th.  She weighed 7 lbs, 1 oz and measured 19.5 inches long.

During the surgery, my doctor made the comment that it was a really good thing that we did the c-section, but didn't understand the reason for that until two days later.  As it turns out, I would have ruptured and we most likely would have lost our baby girl.  As my doctor moved my bladder to get to the uterus to cut open the previous incision, it turns out the the incision had already opened up.  He didn't have to cut my uterus open.  He moved the bladder, and he could already see the sac of water.  He just broke the water and pulled her out then re-stitched me back up.  He said the force of the contractions would have caused a rupture for sure, since the incision was already open.  Heavenly Father was really watching out for us and our family that day and knowing how close we could have been to losing her has really filled my heart with gratitude.

We are home now and getting through the long recovering, but doing well.  Alice is an absolute gem, and so far all she does is sleep.  She really is a little angel and we are enjoying her so much.  The experience has been so different from Katie and that has been a blessing.  I have a bond with Alice that I never experienced with Katie until weeks afterward.

Here are a few pictures of us and our new family.  I put some comparisons up of the four of us when we were all 1 week old or less.  They aren't the best pictures.  I will get some better ones up soon, but so far, Katie looked just her dad and Alice looks a lot more like me.  It's only fair right?  Enjoy!
